Deep Sea Fishing For Yellowfin Tuna , Yellowfin Habits , Yellowfin Tuna Information
Yellowfin Tuna {thunnus albacares} The yellowfin occurs in both Atlantic and Pacific in waters that are most often above 70 degree. The diet of the yellowfin tuna includes small fishs, crustaceans and squid. The largest yellowfin tuna recorded on rod and reel was 388# 12ounces. The school sized yellowfin are fished much the same way as albacore with the same tackle being appropriate. Large schools of yellowfin often hold under kelp patties or schools of dolphin. For this reason its important for all members of the fishing party to watch for floating kelp and dolphins. To fish for the larger yellowfin tuna it usually means traveling to resort areas such as Cabo or taking a multi day trip of ten or more days. As the tackle for these trips can be very specialized and expensive my recommendation is to contact the landing where you are taking the trip and ask for there recommendations and possibly filling in with rental tackle. What ever you decide it’s a must experience for any offshore fisherman to pull on a large yellowfin tuna.Andy Pulido with a 242# Clarion Island Tuna
